Here's my most recent Google search: Blending hot liquids.
I made tomato soup last night. Towards the end of the recipe you have to blend everything. I filled blendy, my nickname for our blender, halfway, hit the switch and the damn thing "exploded" on my face! Molten tomato soup covered my glasses, the appliances, the walls, it was everywhere! After I did my Google search I discovered it's not good to blend hot liquids with the lid on tight. Turns out the liquid expands and has nowhere to go...nowhere but on my face.
I'm a little embarrassed. Because at my age, you'd think this situation would have come up before. I'm also a little pissed. Shouldn't the recipe have given me a little head's up?! "Hot liquids in blender are BAD!" That's all I would have needed.
On the bright side, my tomato soup was delicious! For a complete meal I also made some grilled cheese sandwiches. Thankfully the sandwiches didn't hurt me, ha ha!
