Oscar Night Recap:

Leading up to the big Oscar show, Cara and I were in our house celebrating Erin's birthday (She's my sister-in-law). This story needs a little backstory: If you live in the New York area and you're a Cablevision customer, like I am, you couldn't watch the Oscars due to a fight between Cablevision and ABC. So, Cara, Deirdre (my other sister-in-law), and myself made plans to watch the show at my father-in-law's house (he has Verizon).

It was getting close to show time, the party was still raging and we had to be on the other side of town in minutes. This is when I made the announcement: We love you but you have to go. They took off, I gathered the necessary supplies, popcorn, beer, and then we left. I shut my front door and the countdown began, 3 minutes until show time.

We got in the car, I started the engine and saw that the low fuel light was on. Cara used the car earlier in the day and returned with an empty tank! Pretty funny. I drove like I was delivering a human heart to a hospital. It was crazy but we made it. We got inside, Deirdre turned on the cable box but the TV wouldn't turn on. These days most people have HDTV but my father-in-law is still rocking a television that looks like this:

We were in a panic, pushing every button within reach. Finally, one minute into the program, the set turned on. 10 minutes later, Cablevision and ABC reached an agreement. The show was back on Cablevision. Bastards! Now we're stuck watching the show on an analog TV that has seen better days. I said, I can't watch this knowing a perfectly good HDTV broadcast is going unwatched at our house. We agreed we'd drive back to my house at the next commercial break.

There was an award I didn't care about so I went out to the car and waited for the ladies. I was sitting there and all of the sudden, this wild tornado came swirling towards my car. I wish I had my camera because seeing Cara and Deirdre in that mode of panic was so funny. Cara didn't have her door closed when she yelled, "Go, go, go!"

This would be my best driving in a long time. Deirdre was timing us, Cara was telling me when to look out for oncoming cars.
We went a back way to avoid traffic lights. It was so crazy, I ran a red light, seconds later a cop passed us, whew, that was too close. We made it home and didn't miss any of the broadcast.

What a fun night! Oh and the Oscars were good too, ha ha.
