Friday night the plan was to help my friends Walter and “Sally” move some stuff. The stuff was on the big side and they needed the 22-inch pythons.
22-inch pythons?I was more than happy to help. Before I knew it, I was in a moving van, going to the Hamptons…that’s right, The Hamptons, playground to the rich and famous. This trip was for business but it’s great fun hanging out with people you care about.
Saturday night, I was back in Hoboken. I watched The Brown Bunny on DVD. Roger Ebert said this about The Brown Bunny, “It was the worst film in the history of the festival (Cannes).” Ha ha -- But that was before the director, producer, editor and actor (all the same person), Vincent Gallo, edited 26 minutes out of the 118 minute film and now, it’s not so bad. I thought it was different and that it could have been better. The end of the film, the raw emotion (and I’m not talking about the infamous scene that I can’t write about here), I just wish that emotion were throughout the film. Not for kids, not for a lot of adults. Say what you will, the guy’s pretty talented – see Buffalo ’66.
Sunday I woke up around 9:30, got a shower and headed off to do my laundry. Nothing to report there. I drove over to the A & P around 1:30. I went to Target first to look at their DVDs. They had 'The Cooler' for $9.44. I thought to myself, 'damn, I missed this the first time around and $9.44 is a sweet price, maybe I should get it?' Then I thought, 'you know, I just got HBO, maybe I'll see it there?' Well, guess what? I got home, turned on the tube and it was playing on HBO -- no joke! It was crazy. Always go with your gut. Later, I walked around Hoboken a little and didn't do much after that. This old town was pretty empty this weekend due to the holiday.
Monday, work as usual. Getting to work wasn't so bad...coming home is a whole other story. Now, as I tell this story, please keep in mind that I'm aware of the human tragedy in New Orleans and elsewhere. Any trivia I write about myself just seems like, well, trivia. So, that said, I got out around 8:45 and headed to the subway. All public transportation is running on a holiday schedule and that means everything is crazy slow. Knowing that, I take the first train that comes. I took the D down to the PATH train. I get down there and it was just crazy! On holidays the Jersey City train and Hoboken train are one, this means more people but last night it meant people stacked across the whole platform. It was crazy! So crazy that I said, screw this and I headed over to the Port Authority. I did this by taking the D train uptown to the E train going downtown. Sound confusing? I'm sure there's some 'Z' train that I don't know about that's a straight shot from the PATH station to the bus station but what can you do? I waited about 15 minutes for the bus, I ended up getting back to Hoboken around 10:15!! It was crazy. But I got to pay the bills.
Have you seen that show on TLC, Miami Ink? Damn show makes me want to get some ink. I think I talked about getting a tat years ago. It's on the short list, along with winning the lotto and driving a motorcycle.
That's pretty good for a Tuesday...if I do say so myself.
Stay beautiful,
Bob
