Friday, I woke up around 10:00 - that was some sweet sleeping-in action after a busy week. Then around 11:30 Walter, "Sally" and I made arrangements to spend the day together. The plan? To pick up their "new" car and take a joy ride up to the casino. It was SO humid yesterday! My walk to the train station and walk to their house was quite the sweaty experience.

We headed to the dealership and there was the usual 'last possible second' screwing from the 'manager' going on. I just sat at a table, read the paper and occasionally overheard the guy's BS."What if you go off road and break your transaxle"Come on! They finally worked it out and we were on the road!

We're leaving Queens on Friday, around 4:00, headed up to Connecticut - not a smart move! The traffic was crazy, for 27 miles we drove about 15 miles per hour. I didn't mind the traffic because I wasn't driving. But Walter was showing signs of fatigue.

We made it to the casino around 7. I brought $300, money that I could afford to lose - I lose that and I'm done. I sat down at a table that Walter was having some luck playing. The new dealer was like a machine. She was so lightning fast that it was joyless. I lost $100 before the shoe finished. I got up, thought about it and sat back down when she started a new shoe. I lost another $100 and said screw this. We walked around and put some money in a $5 Wheel of Fortune slot machine. I was lucky enough to get the wheel to spin around and I won $125! I walked away with $90! I lost on some other machines until I had $60. The plan for the $60 was to just put it on one hand of Blackjack. Walter and I found a nice, empty, twenty-five dollar table. I put the $60 down on one hand and lost, damn. With $100 left to spend, I said screw it, I might as well finish here. The table was nice, not a lot of people around and the dealer was almost painfully slow, which I like - it stretches out the playing experience.

I got four, twenty-five dollar chips. I won't go play-by-play from this point so let me just move forward to my last bet. At this point, I have two high stacks of $25 chips. We were hungry and decided to only play one more hand. So, I put down $200. I figure, I'm playing with their money, if I lose; I lose. I was dealt a 7 and a four (11) against the dealer's five or maybe it was a three. Either way, it was a great hand to double down on. So I just went for it. I put $200 down bringing the total of my bet to $400. I got my 10 (21) and the dealer got 17. I walked away from that table with a nice stack of black chips (On hundred dollar chips) total: $1200. Wow!
Nice

Needless to say, dinner was on me! We had a feast of lobster and fish. After dinner I played some slot machines but that was it. I didn't return to the tables because I didn't want to push my luck. I was surprised by my remarkable restraint. Walter didn't fare so well but that's how it goes. That's why they call it gambling. "Sally" isn't a gambler but I was happy that she decided to go, fun time.

What a great start to my vacation! I hope you enjoyed this special edition bonus diary. See ya August 25th.

All my best,

Bob
